Dr Ryer grew up in Maryland and California and moved to Massachusetts in 1983 after obtaining a degree in Zoology at Cal Poly Humboldt. Originally working as a zookeeper, he earned a Masters degree in Biology from Bridgewater University and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University. Since that time he has practiced zoo medicine, small animal medicine, and emergency/critical care at a variety of hospitals in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Outside of work he is an avid kayaker, wildlife photographer and drone (quadcopter) pilot.
